Two illustrations for Little Gold Star: A Spanish American Cinderella Tale
Sergio Martinez (Mexican, born Mexico City)
In this New Mexico Cinderella story, the Virgin Mary takes the place of the fairy godmother: kind Teresa cares for Joseph and the Christ Child for a day, and Mary rewards her with a gold star on her forehead. The star, not a glass slipper, is what shows who she really is.
